What kinds of scalp infections cause hair loss?

There are a number of conditions that can cause hair loss, including scalp infection. The most common scalp infections are ringworms, folliculitis, and Seborrheic Dermatitis.

Ringworm- It’s a fungus that causes itchy, right-shaped patches on the scalp, causing patching baldness in victims. It can also cause the hair shaft to become brittle and weak which can lead to hair breakage.

Folliculitis- It’s referred to as inflammation of the hair follicles. Folliculitis is caused by noninfectious causes such as oil and infectious causes such as bacteria and viruses invading the follicles. It can be mistaken for acne.

Seborrheic Dermatitis- It’s a painful and itchy inflammation that is associated with fungal infection. It can occur on the skin and scalp. A scalp fungal infection can contribute to temporary hair loss. It’s most commonly seen in children and older adults over age 50.

The hair loss from these scalp infections can be reversed when effectively treated.
